i see lots of places linking to ‘daily motion’ but i don’t know what it is. i could probably type those letters into a search engine and visit their official site…. but i don’t think i will. i don’t like how ‘daily motion’ sounds/looks
i saw this video linked through www.prefixmag.com vitalic was a pfork ‘band’ about 4 years ago???? this song sounds cool, but the cultural timing is just a little off. nothing to do with the actual jam really… but it doesn’t quick strike a chord for whatever reason
sounds good/looks good/feels good too…. but just not right now???
what’s the meaning of disco ballz. what do they signify??? i think alts are ambivalent towards them, that’s why they need to make a photocopy-like image (DFA) in order to have a little (alt) distance.

….I met Wavves after his big Euro tour and he was still the same dude

I remember when I looped Michael Jackson’s Billy Jean beat, added some phat-ass bass, and made my first #1 electro hit

I remember when Pitchfork reviewed Steve Aoki’s DJ album and used it as an excuse to talk about…

I remember when Daft Punk decided to get the band back together and wrote the heart-wrenching ”Rollin and Scratchin.”
I remember when Mark Hoppus jumped in the air and clapped his feet together.

I remember liking the artwork on Steve Aoki’s DJ album

I remember when I heard Zombie Nation after The Dodgers hit a home run.
I remember when I first saw Travis Bickle’s checkered neck tattoo.

I remember when Julian Plenti sent me an email from julianplenti@gmail.com
I really think I’m still in the year 2007. Culturally, I was pretty absent from the year 2008 and I’ve gotten a pretty late start on 2009. I’ve been listening to this new band called Simian Mobile Biscuits. One of the guys in the band has cool hair. The other guy is German-looking. Together they make songs about hustlers.

Their newest album came out a while ago. I didn’t think the artwork was that cool at the time. I remember listening to the album a bunch but not really paying attention. I also played it on a system with no “bass.” I’ve seen these guys perform live a couple times and they put on a really good show.
I think Pfork should start reviewing albums 1 Year Later to see how an album holds up to History and after all the marketing dollars and hype has been exhausted.
A lot of albums get reviews that are so entrenched in the spirit of the times that it’s hard to read. If a band is getting too much attention I usually dislike them as a default (at least for a while). The indie-rock hype machine is pretty arbitrary I think. Does any music site have a similar power/influence that equals or comes close to Pfork?

Simian Mobile has a good sound. It’s not quite electro in that Ed Banger kind of way, and it’s not really retro/80s or fixed to a certain aesthetic. It doesn’t sound Daft Punk or remix-y. I like how their songs aren’t as bass synth driven. I like the way they use reverb to create a space.

Eraserhead hair looks very cool with smoke + flashing lights. It’s like a mad scientist look.
When I listen to ‘I Got This Down’ I imagine a big open room with various objects bouncing in different directions off different walls. There’s a lot of stuff going on in this song. I like how it doesn’t quite reach the banger peak-intensity level. It’s positioned as song #2, the lead up to ‘It’s the Beat’ and ‘Hustler’, so it makes sense to have a… 1) intro song 2) ‘let’s get it going’ lead up, and 3) + 4) dance hits
Simian Mobile Biscuits - I Got This Down
I think I’ve been in a ‘let’s get it going’ mood for a while.
