For companies looking to promote their brands, attention-seeking indie, entrepreneurial artists present an opportunity that may prove mutually beneficial. A catchy song with mass appeal by an independent artist could be just the thing to get your brand noticed. While the temptation may be to partner with an established artist backed by a major label, sometimes a well-known celebrity may bring the wrong kind of attention, as was the case recently with Chris Brown.
Independent artists, especially newer ones, are less likely to carry this kind of baggage. Presumably, they are easier to deal with, less expensive, have the ability to mobilize their fans, and best of all, there are so many of them that finding one with suitable the sound and message should not be an impossible task. An advertiser needs only spend some hours scouring the myriad digital distribution sites to find a suitable artist.
Of course, it’s important to make a cautious choice. Companies need to ensure the artist consumers will identify with their brands has the right message and image.
I pay you but you gonna turn lez if that’s ok during these rough times.
Some indie artists may also be reticent to lose their “cred” by associating their music with a commercial endeavor, but most will come around for the right terms.
I can buy your stupid a$$. You have no idea how things really work. Just sell my shit product make me money you dirty stupid stupid a$$ losers.
between this clown and Alice Glass I truly hate this generation of “musicians”
asshole brats..thanks MySpace generation
Wake up from your absurd fantasy land self important world there bands such as Wavves. In the past bands in independent music if you wanna call it that were much more humble. People playing in Jazz and blues bands from 30 40 years ago still playing dont get the b.s. attitude of these little kids. All this crap talking would most likely never occur face to face obviously at local shows.
*These days the “here today gone later today” hype is giving a platform for just total fucking no talents. Very true.
indie rock is like a girl that “has issues”/hates herself
So tired of crappy digital videos made by bands’ friends who take interactive media classes at Pratt. So tired of cheap and quirky indie videos. It’s so refreshing to see a well made artistic work that happens to function as a music video.
It’s so refreshing to see a video about “the spaceman.” Sometimes “indie” just means low budget. To make real art, you need good costume designers who have experience making shoulder pads for spacemen. Real men aren’t afraid of choreography and putting themselves out there. Real artists are few and far between.

What’s with Universal Music Group not letting people embed videos from youtube? Aren’t videos just ads for bands anyway?
Reading other people’s tumblrs is kinda like searching for random videos on You Tube. Kinda reminds me of this Onion video.
I don’t think everyone should be creating “content” on their own blogs & facebook updates. I think facebook essentially filters out your most annoying friends for you.
Tumblr’s so stupid - does anyone actually post their own Chats?
I’m thinking about being a MEGA-ALT and becoming entrenched in an indie subculture where I have a certain stake in that way of life. I’m thinking about becoming a Cutie:
“Childlike innocence and assumed naivety permeate the Cutie scene – their clothes are asexual, their haircuts are fringes, their colours are pastel. Cuties like Penguin modern classics, sweets, ginger beer, vegetables, and anoraks. Heroes include Christopher Robin…Buzzcocks and The Undertones.”
I want to pretend I’m still a kid and the outside world is too intense for my sensitive and authentic (indie) soul.
The Cuties of today are the child predators of tomorrow.
Just wanna be in a country that’s not ALT or MAIN, just POOR and REALLY POOR.
I want to be a douchebag indie artist that has less hair than the people he talks trash about.
….then there’s no point in blogging right? At the moment I’m listening to a bad Empire of the Sun remix on Hype Machine. It’s actually pretty not-bad - - I can usually tolerate anyting minorly electro/techno. I need to find more shitty techno on myspace!
If you think about the number of myspace artists and how many unknown jams are out there…. I don’t know what I’m saying…. but I know Shitty Techno should be its own genre. There was a band called Shit Disco right? :( I’m pretty sure Shitty Disco is already established.
An indie artist should do some “random covers” of unknown myspace music to generate some buzzz.
Someone should write an essay about disco skulls. I think there’s something going on there.
I’m thinking about making a series of “crappy” techno logos that will appear on a google image “techno” search.
Nothing’s worse than boring/depressing “indie” music in my opinion. A “techno beat” is definitely more conducive to “getting stuff done”…..I think it makes me think better.
Still trying to understand the art of blogging. It still seems pretty dumb to me. I feel pressure to force “content” into being. When I re-read something I wrote it just seems kinda dumb. Amateur bloggerz come up with lists, right? You can re-post your Last.fm ‘artists of the week’ list too??
I’m trying to stay on the positive tip these days. It’s too easy to talk trash about things you don’t like. Don’t wanna be like some snarky self-hating blogger or worse yet - a “critic.” I guess there’s a little pocket for cultural criticism, but I don’t think I have the necessary skillz for that.
Satire is a pretty ALT comedy tool. I think it’s generally funnier than sarcasm and it appears to be less bitter and world-hating on the surface at least. I’m trying to find new avenues of comedy that “stay positive.” I should take a stab at Blog-slapstick.
I’m trying to think of the jokes I find funny…. What kind of humor is Mr. Shake and Carl?
What kind of humor is Jermaine? Is he funnier than Brett? I think they had to “ALT” Brett more than Jermaine when they started filming Flight of the Conches. Jermaine is definitely a more nature alt. Who do you think is better?
Surreal comedy sounds like the stupidist thing ever… I think I like lo-brow/ALT/slapstick/satire maybe. You know, like Aziz Ansari.
